FROM CONSUMMATION TO CONFLICT

•    out of sync due to missed encounter
•    observations about conflict in marriage:
        a) It’s often over something silly.
        b) It hurts more.
        c) Sometimes we overreact.
•    conflict inevitable whenever 2 people not exactly alike

1. COMMIT TO THE RELATIONSHIP: “I SUBMIT TO YOU”

•    the good of the marriage over the good of yourself
•    Ephesians 5: submit out of reverence for Christ
•    no excuse for abuse

2. APOLOGIZE FIRST: “I’M SORRY”

•    gunnysacking results in overreaction
•    health of the marriage requires humbling oneself to apologize
•    “faint with love”: conflict is wearing, exhausting

3. BE NICE TO EACH OTHER: “I’LL BE CIVIL TO YOU”

•    treat spouse at least as well as we’d treat our best friend
•    Galatians 5 “fruit of the Spirit” a filter
•    marriage not about you, but about sacrifice, reflecting Jesus’ love
