POWER AND PRIDE

•    examples of powerful officials succumbing to bribes
•    Joseph kept his integrity even when granted much power

FORSAKEN, FRAMED, FORGOTTEN

•    forsaken by brothers: sold into slavery
•    framed by Potiphar’s wife: refused her solicitations
•    forgotten by cupbearer: didn’t return the favour of interpreted dream
•    might have become bitter, resentful, vengeful

NOT ME, BUT GOD

•    God used dreams to communicate to rulers
•    instead of grandstanding, Joseph humbly deflects glory to God
•    Paul attributes any accomplishments to God’s grace
•    God’s Spirit reveals the humanly unknown
•    Joseph self-deprecatingly doesn’t suggest himself for the job

SUFFERING SURPASSED

•    names of sons shows Joseph appreciates God overcoming troubles
•    God’s purpose in long run superintends our suffering in the short term
