SAVED BY HOPE (LITERALLY!) WHEN SINKING FAST

•    saved from chilly drowning by woman with name that suits

INCURABLE BRUISE FOR INCREDIBLE SIN

•    terrible conditions of Babylonian siege a result of Judah’s disobedience
•    rampant idolatry, infant sacrifice, etc. ‘an incredible evil’

UNFAILING LOVE PROMPTS NEW COVENANT

•    loved with an everlasting love, drawn with lovingkindness
•    new covenant marked by forgiveness, knowing the Lord and His law
•    Christ’s sacrifice once for all at the cross means by which we’re made holy
•    hold to the hope we profess as Jesus waits for victory over His enemies

‘OWN’ THE PROMISE SEALED IN THE JAR OF CLAY

•    commanded to buy field even though seemed ridiculous under the circumstances
•    nothing too hard for God: rejoices in doing good and planting His people
•    clay jar to last a long time, until conditions restored, including territory of Benjamin

THE HOLY SPIRIT OUR ‘EARNEST’

•    God’s Spirit in believers’ hearts a ‘deposit’ guaranteeing what’s to come (2Cor 1:22, 5:5; Eph 1:14)
•    Jesus’ light in us ‘treasure in jars of clay’ (2Cor 4:6ff)
