THE STRONGHOLD OF PHILIPPI

•    trusting in: wealth, pride, military might, culture, prejudice

THE TORMENT: DOWNWARD STEPS TO THE DUNGEON

•    slave girl’s deliverance made owners furious (Ac 16:16ff; Mk 5:7ff)
•    dragged, attacked, beaten, thrown into dungeon: severely abased (22ff)
•    extreme reaction to challenging of strongholds

AN ALMIGHTY BASS ACCOMPANIMENT: ALREADY FREE

•    looking to Jesus enabled prisoners to persevere and praise (25; Heb 11:27, 12:2f)
•    rejoice always, present requests to God, experience God’s transcending peace (Php 4:4,6f)
•    jailer saved from needless self-destruction: gospel today can save people from sin’s damage (Rom 6:23)
