Needing Assurance when Times are Tough

 ○     suffering prompts crying out to God (Ps 88:13ff)
 ○     early Christians suffering / exiled due to persecution (1:9)
 ○     missionary brought to tears because of harsh treatment, theft

The Lord’s Location and Looks

 ○     Jesus ascended to God’s right hand in heaven (Ac 7:56; Mk 16:19; Rom 8:34)
 ○     at the centre of God’s throne (5:6; 7:17; 22:1,3)
 ○     striking voice, eyes, face (1:10,14ff; 19:12,15; Mk 9:3)
 ○     mystery of form: ‘son of man’ or Lamb (Jn 20:14f; Lk 24:16,31; Rev 1:13; 14:14; 19:11; 5:6; 7:17; 21:22f)

Worthy is the Lamb Who was Slain

 ○     able to open the important scroll because was slain (5:5,9,12f; Jn 5:22,27)
 ○     titles numerous: First & Last, Root of David, Faithful & True, Word of God, King of kings & Lord of lords (1:17f; 19:11,13,16; Jn 1:1)

Just Judge

 ○     holds keys of death/Hades, swings sickle of earth’s harvest (1:18, 14:14ff; Mk 13:32; 1Cor 15:28; Jn 5:17,36)
 ○     judges with justice, strikes down nations, treads fury of God’s wrath (19:11,15; Jn 14:6)

Concern for the Church: Priest-Maker

 ○     interceding / appearing for us, in our defence (Heb 7:25; 9:24; Rom 8:34; 1Jn 2:1)
 ○     found among the lampstands/churches with their messengers in His right hand (1:11,13,20)
 ○     made us to be a kingdom & priests to serve God: we’re Jesus’ stand-ins (1:5f; 5:10)

Mighty to Intervene

 ○     hears missionary’s distress, brings response of friend and wealthy business lady
